Google Photos AI Wardrobe: How It Works and How to Use It

Imagine opening Google Photos and finding your own digital wardrobe ready on your phone. Sounds interesting, right? Google is now making this possible with its new Google Photos AI Wardrobe feature, which uses AI to identify the clothes you have worn in your photos and organize them into a virtual closet.

The feature is now available to eligible users in India, the US, and Brazil on Android and iOS. Google says Wardrobe can automatically catalog clothing from your photo library, allowing you to browse items, create outfits, and even virtually try on different looks.

What Is Google Photos AI Wardrobe?

Google Photos Wardrobe is basically a digital closet powered by AI. Instead of manually photographing every shirt, pair of jeans, jacket, or skirt you own, Google Photos can identify clothing items from your existing photos.

You can then view your clothes by categories such as tops, bottoms, skirts and other clothing types. This makes it easier to remember what you already own and experiment with different combinations.

How Does Google Photos Wardrobe Work?

The feature scans photos of you from your last four years and uses AI to identify clothing items. Once your wardrobe is ready, Google Photos creates a collection that you can browse directly inside the app.

You can also create an outfit by selecting up to six items from your digital wardrobe. After creating an outfit, you can save it and give it a name—or simply leave it unnamed.

How to Use Google Photos AI Wardrobe

Using the feature is fairly simple:

1. Open the Google Photos app on your phone.
2. Go to Collections.
3. Look for Wardrobe.
4. Tap Build my wardrobe.
5. Google Photos will scan eligible photos and identify clothing items.
6. Once the process is complete, you can browse and organize your digital closet.
7. Tap Create to mix and match different clothing items.
8. You can then save the outfit or use the Try it on option.

Google also allows users to regenerate a try-on result and save or share the resulting video.

Who Can Use Google Photos Wardrobe?

Google says the feature is rolling out to eligible users in India, the US and Brazil. Users generally need an eligible Google Account, Face Groups turned on, and their own face selected. Google also lists Android 10 or newer as a requirement for Android users. Some users may need a Google AI Pro or AI Ultra subscription, while the feature is also rolling out to other eligible users.

Is Google Photos AI Wardrobe Useful?

For people who regularly take outfit photos, shop frequently, or simply forget what is already sitting in their closet, this feature could make planning outfits much easier. Instead of scrolling endlessly through old photos, your clothes can be brought together into one searchable digital collection.

Google says Wardrobe-related data is not shared with third parties such as retailers.
